29 year old Astros shortstop Gregorio Petit has so little service time that he’s still considered a rookie despite two previous cameos in the majors and a five-year wait between big league appearances before he returned to the majors last week.
So he and his teammates rejoiced a bit more than usual Friday night when Petit drilled his first major-league home run to propel the Astros to a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays at Minute Maid Park.
With the score tied at 1, Petit greeted lefthanded reliever Aaron Loup with a leadoff home run into the Crawford Boxes before an appreciative crowd of 19,576 in the second game of the four-game series.
First teammate George Springer doused him with ice water, then Carlos Corporan dumped bubble gum on his head.
